Join this unique 23-day expedition to explore the Falkland Islands, South Georgia, and the rarely visited South Sandwich Islands! This exclusive full-boat charter of the m/v Ortelius is our group only. Expect diving, snorkeling, kayaking, and landings amid more than half a million penguins. Key Destinations & Experiences
Falkland Islands Home to the world’s largest black-browed albatross colony (roughly 113,000 pairs at Steeple Jason). Weather and swell permitting, we aim for Steeple Jason and Carcass Island—bursting with breeding Magellanic and Gentoo penguins, endemic birds, and waders. Alternatives may include Saunders Island, West Point Island, or Grave Cove for more albatross, rockhoppers, and stunning hikes.
South Georgia Breathtaking wildlife and scenery. Possible visits include Prion Island (wandering albatrosses), the massive king penguin colonies and elephant seal beaches at Salisbury Plain, St. Andrews Bay, and Gold Harbor, Fortuna Bay (following Shackleton’s route), historic whaling sites like Leith Harbour, Stromness, and Husvik, Grytviken (penguins in the streets and Shackleton’s grave), Cobblers Cove/Godthul (macaroni penguins), Royal Bay, Cooper Bay (one of the largest chinstrap rookeries), Drygalski Fjord, Annenkov Island, and King Haakon Bay steeped in expedition history.
South Sandwich Islands Few ever visit this volcanic chain—and even fewer have dived here. Becky dove these pristine waters in 2025, and it was otherworldly: millions of chinstrap penguins lining the shores beneath steep volcanoes. We plan to spend 4 days exploring islands like Thule and Cook (and others), with diving, snorkeling, zodiac cruising, and kayaking. Large icebergs, kelp-covered walls, whales, Adélie penguins, and albatross make this the trip highlight. Underwater and zodiac exploration will be extraordinary.
Diving & Snorkeling in Sub-Antarctic Waters This is a true diving trip for qualified participants (1–2 dives daily where conditions allow). Snorkelers receive drysuits and can join the adventure. Expect stunning kelp forests, unique marine life, and the thrill of exploring rarely dived sites alongside seals and more.
